9/28/17

In the first fifteen minutes of class today we mostly just chilled out and waited for Mr. Shick to finish helping another classmate with something. After that we basically just talked about situation and location. Something i learned today is that you can find the importance of a not well known place by comparing it to a similar well known place.

9/21/17

In todays class, we talked about our maps we did in the last class. We had to show them to Mr. Shick and for the most part everyones looked pretty good. We talked about why each place on Earth is unique and we took some notes. We finished twenty minutes earlier then the previous class so we could do our blog, which is what i am doing.

9/20/17

in todays class we talked about our daily routines and maps. At the start of class we got our tests back. if you got a 90 or above mr. Shick would ring his bell once. and if you got a 100 he would ring it twice. if you got below a 90 he wouldn't ring the bell. we started to try and draw a map of the world by memory. We talked about how people think the natives to Paris are rude and why people think of them that way.

In todays class Mr. Shick continued to grade papers due to the fact that he was backed up. He had already graded one hundred sixty-eight papers. Two students had to take the test while the others could just do homework.

9-16-17

In Fridays class we began to talk about regions. We learned that the map school systems have been using for many many years is actually incorrect. it makes some places bigger then they should be and some places smaller then they should be. The one that's correct is the Peter's projection map. We watched a video from a movie in which they talked about the wrongness of the map. Another video we watched was of a weather forecast on the news. Mr. Shick showed it to us to show us how mad the map they used on the forecast made him.

9/12/17

In todays class, we had a test. it was on "A Message to Garcia" and about Socrates as well. there was one thing on the test that i did not know that answer to. it was "what is someone who has writing short stories as a profession called" or something similar to that. i feel like i should have taken maybe twenty five minutes or so yesterday to study. But besides that i fell like the test was easy for the most part.

9/11/17

In todays class we reviewed slide show facts of "A Message to Garcia and Socrates". Mr. Shick asked us what type of questions we thought we should see on the test. Every time someone made up a question and it was important that we knew the answer Mr. Shick would ring his bell. We have a test tomorrow and today was a review day.

9/8/17

In todays class we did the same as we did yesterday. We reviewed the power point and then finished the presentation. We talked more about socrates and what he did. One thing that really stood out to me was that when he was put in jail the jailers offered to get him out and he declined.

9-6-17 Blog

In class today we learned some new terms. We learned what an Agora and a Polis is. An agora is a public area for assemblies and markets. Polis is a city state in ancient Greece especially as considered in its ideal form for philosophical purposes. we learned that the year 508 BC was important to the greeks because thats the year they established democracy. We learned who Socrates was and what he did and that he was sentenced to death by drinking poison. The last thing we learned about was the Socratic Method this is a cooperative argumentative form of communication.

A Message to Garcia 9/5/17

In todays class we talked about A Message to Garcia. we looked at a power point on the back round and got a lot of the details. It was published in 1899 and sold over 40 million copies. Another fun fact is that it was translated in 37 different languages. The setting of the story is the Spanish-American war. He basically made the story to complain about how lazy the world is.

Interpretation and Action Plan

I thought the story A Message to Garcia  was very good and had a very good message. I really liked how it showed us to take an initiative in everything, even the little things. Taking an initiative is so important in your every day life, for everyone not just adults. For instance in middle school if you do not try and are lazy with school work you might not get good grades resulting in you not getting into the high school you wanted to go to. As well as in high school if you have an athletic career and you don't take an initiative in your sport or you're lazy with it you might just loose a starting spot, let alone if you don't take an initiative in school and your grades drop you won't be able to play sports at all.  Based on how my past years with school have gone I've decided to make some changes. I have always been lazy with my schoolwork and now that I am in high school that has to change. if my grades don't stay up then I wont be able to play football. I
