Extra Credit

Over this break I am researching Kiva.org and its goals, what it does for others and the overall point for the website. Kiva is a nonprofit organization that gives people a chance to in a way start their lives. People can post a "fundraising loan" on the website with an amount of money they need and time they need it in. After they post it, people can send them donations anywhere from 25-500 dollars. If someone is saying that they need money to increase their livestock, then they buy more animals so they can produce more goods. The more goods they produce the more they can financially support themselves. So, once they begin to make enough money, they will send you the amount of money that you donated back. A woman named Lieu in Vietnam has a 875 dollar loan request on the website so that she can buy pigs and chickens and raise them to pay for her and her families everyday lives. A man named Roman in Paraguay has a post for 1,000 dollars so he can buy clay to manufacture bricks and sell them. He wants to accomplish this because where he's from there is quite a few upgrades on houses that could be made. Romans situation really spoke to me. Where he is from they are using clay bricks has an upgrade, which shows how much more poor and unfortunate people and other places on the planet can be.
