Today we watched a Hans Rosling video on global health. He made a graph with the y-axis being years/life expectancy and the x-axis being the average amount of money made. It showed how as time went on and more money started to be made the life expectancy began to go up.

Todays class was pretty laid back and easy. We watched a five minute video about the population in the future based on population pyramids. Every thirty seconds or so, Mr. Schick would pause the video and tell us something important to write down.

Extra Credit

Over this break I am researching Kiva.org and its goals, what it does for others and the overall point for the website. Kiva is a nonprofit organization that gives people a chance to in a way start their lives. People can post a "fundraising loan" on the website with an amount of money they need and time they need it in. After they post it, people can send them donations anywhere from 25-500 dollars. If someone is saying that they need money to increase their livestock, then they buy more animals so they can produce more goods. The more goods they produce the more they can financially support themselves. So, once they begin to make enough money, they will send you the amount of money that you donated back. A woman named Lieu in Vietnam has a 875 dollar loan request on the website so that she can buy pigs and chickens and raise them to pay for her and her families everyday lives. A man named Roman in Paraguay has a post for 1,000 dollars so he can buy clay to manufacture brick

In the beginning of todays class, everyone was drawing stuff for Thanksgiving on the side board. I wrote my name in blue. Then we began to talk an opportunity about extra credit. There is a website called kiva.org where you can donate to specific people so they can start a business or buy animals so they can improve their livestock. For extra credit you have to look at two borrowers and explain it in an essay. For another additional five points you can actually donate to someone. Whats cool about donating is that if you donate to someone that is starting a business they will eventually send you all of your donation money back. And for even more points (total of 15) if my class donates a higher percentage then the honors class we get five more points. But, if they get the higher percentage then they get the five points. So, if you decide to do both the essay and donate you will receive ten extra credit points regardless.

In todays class we did some more presentations. Ryan and I presented ours today. My personal favorite presentation was Emmanuels. I thought it was very funny and interactive while he presented it.

In todays class we had some people do their presentations. I learned a little bit about some hunger organizations, such as Care. Care is a non-profit organization that help people around get the food they need.
